I *Heart* These Books

April 29, 2009

Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series and Larissa Ione’s Demonica series are two of my new favorites. I’ve read two in the Immortals After Dark world now–there are presently seven books in the series–and I’m SO looking forward to reading more. :woot:  After snarfing through the first three books in the Demonica world–there are three at the moment, with more on the way–I can’t wait until book four comes out. :happydance:

What are some of your new favorites?

Bride of the Wolf

 Bride of the Wolf

At a recent blog party hosted by Jennifer St. Giles and Gena Showalter, I won an ARC of Bride of the Wolf by Jennifer St. Giles. I’d read the first two in her Shadowmen series and had thoroughly enjoyed them, so I was thrilled to win Bride of the Wolf, the fourth book in the series. This installment didn’t disappoint. Marissa and Navarre share a powerful connection that provides both of them the strength they need to battle absolute evil. With a gripping plot and a host of memorable characters, Bride of the Wolf is an excellent addition to a fascinating series.

*The release date for Bride of the Wolf is April 28, 2009.

Here’s the book description:

When the heroic werewolf Navarre is trapped in the twilight realm, his Shadowmen comrades are unable to rescue him. Only a passionate woman with a spirit as wild as his own can set him free….

Oil heiress Marissa Vasquez fled the jungles of Belize to avoid becoming a pawn in her vicious uncle’s wicked schemes. Though she has found temporary sanctuary in little Twilight, Tennessee, only in her dreams does she taste freedom. At night, her spirit intertwines with a magnificent black wolf, and they run together under the glow of a forest moon. When a wounded stranger is brought to the camp where she is hiding, she glimpses in his eyes the mysterious being who has been the partner of her visions. But before she can explore her strange reaction to this man, they are kidnapped and imprisoned once again.

Navarre is a shapeshifting Shadowman, captured by the evil Vladarian vampire who hopes to control Marissa. Injured and blind, he struggles to regain his warrior’s strength as they fight for their freedom — and their lives. Together, their spirits form a powerful link matched only by the passion they discover in each other’s arms. But can a mortal woman attain true love with a man who is half wolf? And will their enemies give them time to find an answer?

Grey’s Anatomy

Last night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy was amazing. It had me laughing out loud one moment and tearing up the next. All of the story lines were excellent, but the one with Doctor Bailey had me weeping. :tears:

Hot Shot

April 20, 2009

Hot Shot

Hot Shot by MJ Fredrick is a riveting romance. The chemistry between Peyton and Gabe is palpable from the moment they meet and continues to grow throughout the story. The action sequences in this novel are impressive and they kept me reading late into the night because I had to see what was going to happen next. With stellar characters and an engrossing plot, Hot Shot is a fabulous read.

Here’s the book description:

Their passion rivals the fires they battle.

Peyton Michaels expected her assignment to be simple-write an article about everyday heroes. Heroes like Hot Shot firefighter Gabe Cooper. She never expected to find herself running up a mountain, a wildfire nipping at her heels, her life in his hands.

And she never expected to be drawn to Gabe. After the loss of her husband in the line of duty, the last thing she wants is to fall in love with yet another man who routinely puts his life at risk.

Gabe has had enough of women who want to make him into someone he’s not. Women like his ex, who couldn’t handle the heat of his job. Like Peyton, who sees him as a hero when he’s just a man doing a job. Except time after time, the pesky reporter proves her mettle. And gets deeper under his skin.

But there’s an arsonist at work, and danger is closing in with the speed of a raging brush fire. Peyton and Gabe have to dig deep for what it takes to be a real hero-to find the courage to reach out and grab a forever kind of love. Before it’s too late.

Easter Memories

April 9, 2009

One of my favorite Easter memories happened when I was five years old. That Sunday morning my sister and I searched the house for chocolate. My mom had hidden chocolate bunnies and eggs all over, but the pièce de résistance was the chocolate duck in the bathtub. It was the best!

Happy Easter Weekend, everyone!

April Snow Globe

April 8, 2009

This morning when I took Oscar (the woofie) outside, it was like walking in a snow globe. It’s been like that off and on for the last three days. It’s lovely weather for winter, but in April?

To quote Tommy Lee when he was on the TV show ROCK STAR Supernova: “That’s just sauteed in wrong sauce.”
