Of Writing & Doughnuts

August 31, 2007

Yesterday was a great day! I accomplished more than I expected to on the writing front, after which I ate some Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnuts. There must have been chewing involved, but I don’t recall. I was in a state of euphoria the moment I opened the lid and smelled the aroma from the sinfully delicious confections! :flying:

Rises The Night

August 22, 2007

Rises The Night

Rises The Night is the second book in Colleen Gleason’s series: The Gardella Vampire Chronicles. I loved and blogged about The Rest Falls Away, the first book in the series, and in my opinion, Rises The Night is even better. This novel is filled with gasp inducing surprises that had me muttering WOW long after I finished it!

Here’s the back cover blurb:

The Gardella Vampire Chronicles continue as the glorious nineteenth-century city of Rome gives rise to a new threat from the immortal undead….

Lady Victoria Gardella Grantworth de Lacy has been a vampire slayer for just over a year, balancing her life as a peer of Society with the dangerous role that takes her out on moonlit streets, stake in hand. She has learned brutal and heartbreaking lessons about the sacrifices that must be made in order to save humanity from the evil that secretly preys upon it, but she has not wavered in her vow to fight on.

Now, in Italy, a powerful vampire is amassing the power to control the souls of the dead. As Victoria races across Europe to stop what could be the most deadly army the Gardellas have ever faced, her unlikely companion is Sebastian Vioget, a man as tempting as he is untrustworthy. But when Victoria discovers that she has been betrayed by one of her most trusted allies, the truth will challenge all her powers as a Venator–and as a woman….

The Book Quiz

August 17, 2007

I borrowed this quiz from Heather Harper who borrowed it from Jocelynn Drake.

You’re To Kill a Mockingbird!
by Harper Lee

Perceived as a revolutionary and groundbreaking person, you have changed the minds of many people. While questioning the authority around you, you’ve also taken a significant amount of flack. But you’ve had the admirable guts to persevere. There’s a weird guy in the neighborhood using dubious means to protect you, but you’re pretty sure it’s worth it in the end. In the end, it remains unclear to you whether finches and mockingbirds get along in real life.

Stray

August 15, 2007

STRAY

Stray is a riveting Urban Fantasy by Rachel Vincent. Faythe is a charismatic heroine who confronts the horrific circumstances she finds herself in with fiery strength and sarcastic wit. She’s also surrounded by a host of fascinating characters in this stellar debut novel.

Here’s the back cover blurb:

THERE ARE ONLY EIGHT
BREEDING FEMALE WERECATS LEFT…
AND I’M ONE OF THEM

I look like an all-American grad student. But I am a werecat, a shape-shifter, and I live in two worlds.

Despite reservations from my family and my Pride, I escaped the pressure to continue my species and carved out a normal life for myself. Until the night a Stray attacked.

I’d been warned about Strays–werecats without a Pride, constantly on the lookout for someone like me: attractive, female and fertile. I fought him off, but then learned two of my fellow tabbies had disappeared.

This brush with danger was all my Pride needed to summon me back…for my own protection. Yeah, right. But I’m no meek kitty. I’ll take on whatever–and whoever–I have to in order to find my friends. Watch out, Strays–’cause I got claws, and I’m not afraid to use them….

Hunting The Demon

August 10, 2007

Hunting The Demon

Hunting The Demon is the second book in Jaci Burton’s Demon Hunter paranormal romance series.  I’d loved and blogged about Surviving Demon Island, the first book in the series, and I was beyond thrilled when I received an ARC for Hunting The Demon!

Granted, my expectations were high for Hunting The Demon, and I’m happy to say this novel easily exceeded those expectations. Shay and Nic’s scorching chemistry is the perfect accompaniment to a thrill ride of a plot. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough as I raced to discover how things would unfold. There’s also a sexy subplot that gives hints to the next sizzling Demon Hunter novel.

Cheers and congratulations to Jaci Burton for penning another winner!

*Here’s the back cover blurb:

IN A WILDERNESS SEETHING WITH SIN AND SEDUCTION, THE CHASE IS ON.

Hunting demons for a living can have its moments. Especially when Shay Pearson’s latest quarry is the gorgeous bronzed surfer who just stepped out of the sea. Uncovering Nic Diavolo’s devilish side could prove Shay’s toughest assignment yet. Because while she’s acting as bait to snatch this sexy bad boy, Nic’s got a plan of seduction no woman—earthly or otherwise–can resist.

Caught between two warring realms, Nic needs to stay alive long enough to figure out who his enemies are. That includes the beautiful hunter who won’t let him out of her sight. And something far worse: A force of evil with an almost unimaginable goal – possessing Nic’s very soul. But the hunt really heats up when a guy who’s hotter than Hades and a woman who’s afraid to love join forces, igniting an inferno of lust and longing that could send them into mortal danger…or straight into each other’s arms…

*The release date for Hunting The Demon is August 28th!
