Rainy Days & Sunny Smiles

June 15, 2015

Had a good rainstorm the other day, which was much needed. There was no thunder or lightning, but at times it seemed like a torrential downpour. I loved the sound of it as the drops hit the deck, not to mention the atmospheric look of it too. Though it makes my bones ache from time to time, a rainy day still makes me smile.

I also love movies that I enjoy watching no matter how many times I’ve seen them. An old standby is National Treasure, which never ceases to amuse me. Newer favourites are Draft Day and Guardians of the Galaxy.

This & That

November 29, 2011

I was happy that Pentatonix won The Sing-Off last night. They’ve been spectacular all season long. It’s amazing the sounds they can make with just five people.

I’m also excited that CTV is showing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince tonight. I’ve read all seven books, but I’ve only seen the first five movies.

It’s Oscar Time

February 25, 2011

The Academy Awards are this Sunday and it’s an annual tradition I look forward to. It’s a festival of fun, from the red carpet arrival program, to the actual awards show itself.

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!

It’s A Wonderful Life

December 8, 2009

CTV is airing It’s A Wonderful Life this Saturday.  Since I look forward to watching this movie every holiday season, I was thrilled when I saw it on the schedule. Even though there have been some great Christmas movies over the years, this one is my absolute favorite. I don’t often tear up when watching movies, but It’s A Wonderful Life gets me every time.

What’s your favorite Christmas movie?

Get out the Popcorn!

January 16, 2009

During the holiday season I added two more DVDs to the home collection. In Momma Mia, Meryl Streep–accompanied by a delightful cast–was her usual fantastic self. I’ve already watched it a handful of times because it was so much fun.  And Helen Mirren was absolutely pitch perfect in The Queen. This fascinating movie also had an excellent cast.

Movie Fest

December 2, 2008

After adding a few movies to the home collection, I finally got around to watching them this past weekend. The first was Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix and the second was National Treasure 2, Book Of Secrets.

I loved both of them!

Delightfully Creepy

October 28, 2008

With Halloween on Friday, here are a few of my favorite movies about ghosts:

  • Sleepy Hollow
  • Ghost Story
  • Lady In White
  • What Lies Beneath

What movies would make your list?

The Academy Awards

February 22, 2008

The Academy Awards are on this Sunday. The yearly ritual of watching them started in my childhood, and it’s a tradition I heartily enjoy.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Winter Wonderland

December 17, 2007

We had a major snowstorm this weekend. There have been more than a few snowfalls over the last couple of weeks, but this one definitely topped them all. It started in the dark of night on Saturday and continued unabated all day yesterday. I was reminded of that part in Forrest Gump where he talks about the different kinds of rain they had when he was in Vietnam. I’m thinking, in particular, of when he mentioned the rain that went sideways.

The wind howled pretty convincingly and the snow appeared to go sideways, making it seem like this was a planet stuck in a perpetual winter every time I looked out my window. It reminded me of my childhood when that kind of weather felt like it was part and parcel for the Christmas season.

In Her Shoes

May 2, 2007

I watched a great movie on DVD last weekend! Directed by Curtis Hanson, In Her Shoes stars Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, and Shirley MacLaine. It was touching, funny, and absolutely wonderful!
